Frequently Asked Questions:

Does Kauer Guitars offer left handed guitars?
Absolutely! Not only do we offer our lineup in left handed format but we do it for no upcharge.

How do you change strings on a Sperzel SoundLoc equiped Kauer?

What is Wormy Maple?
Wormy Maple is also known as Ambrosia Maple. Its the same Eastern Maple we all know on our favorite maple capped guitars but its tree's infected by Ambrosia Beetles. The beetles bore their way into the tree and hatch their larva there. Its a fungus from the larva that creates the vivid streaking our tops exhibit while keeping the density and strength the same as the surrounding wood, unlike Spalted Maple

.Just a note about Wormy Maple. We go sort through numerous vendor's supplies of Wormy Maple, typically hundreds of boards and often only come back with one or two boards that meet our standards for figure, color, weight and quality. We put a lot of time and care into ensuring what we use is only the best woods available.

Are other woods available?
For the bodies while Spanish Cedar is our standard wood we are often doing limited runs in Korina, Black Limba and occasionally Swamp Ash. For tops while Wormy is our trademark and a favorite in the shop we are more than happy to build with Quilted or Curly Maple, Redwood and occasionally Spruce. Drop us an email to see whats available.

What pickups are available?
Kauer Guitars is proud to now offer our guitars with pickups from Wolfetone Pickups.  We're more than happy to install customer supplied pickups as well.

Whats your turnaround time on a custom order?
The average on custom orders as of this time is 3-4 months

What Strings do you ship with?
We're using StringDogTone Rockets unless otherwise requested usually their 10-46 set. We're huge fans of these strings here in the shop, they've absolutely replaced every other brand we've tried. We think you'll like them too.
